From a chemical problem to the bottle in your kitchen: the key stages of product formulation.

Between the idea for a new detergent and the bottle placed in your kitchen lies a long, invisible process. Here are the main stages of product formulation as we experience them at SIC.

It all begins with the type of dirt to be tackled: kitchen grease, laundry stains, limescale and more. We first identify the chemical nature of the problem before selecting any ingredients.

The Stages of Product Formulation

We select the appropriate active ingredients, combine them in the right proportions, and then test the formula on real stains under real-life conditions. A small adjustment in dosage can make all the difference between an average product and an outstanding one.

Three Key Stages

1 · THE QUESTION

Identify the chemical nature of the dirt or stain to be tackled.

2 · THE FORMULA

Select and measure the active ingredients in the correct proportions.

3 · THE TESTS

Test the product on real stains under real-life conditions.

Only after completing this entire process—question, formulation, testing and stability assessment—does a product deserve to bear the SIC name.
